ISE visited by Mr Alexander Leicht, Head of UNESCO Secretariat for the DESD (Germany)

On February 11, 2011, Mr Alexander Leicht, Head of the Secretariat for the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development from German National Commission for UNESCO, visited Daugavpils. He was accompanied by Ms Baiba Moļņika, the Education Programme Director of Latvian National Commission for UNESCO.
UNESCO officials attended an academic discussion at the Institute of Sustainable Education where future cooperation opportunities between UNESCO and the Institute of Sustainable Education were considered. One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the book “Tomorrow Today” issued by UNESCO in November 2010 and containing the best practices of implementing the aims of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), including the story of the experience of the Institute of Sustainable Education.

On February 11, 2011, Mr Alexander Leicht, Head of the Secretariat for the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development from German National Commission for UNESCO, visited Daugavpils. He was accompanied by Ms Baiba Moļņika, the Education Programme Director of Latvian National Commission for UNESCO.
UNESCO officials visited Daugavpils State Gymnasium and Daugavpils University (DU). An academic discussion was held at the Institute of Sustainable Education (DU) with academic staff, researchers and representatives of the students’ association “Students for Sustainability”, reporters from DU paper “Lai top” and delegates from Daugavpils Education Board.
During the meeting, those in attendance discussed future cooperation opportunities between UNESCO and the Institute of Sustainable Education. One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the book “Tomorrow Today” issued by UNESCO in November 2010. This comprehensive edition summarises the best practices of implementing the aims of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014). Among these best practice examples is the story of the experience of the Faculty of Education and Management (DU) about the activities of the Institute of Sustainable Education in the context of the Decade.
