On February 2-5, 2012, staff members of the Institute of Sustainable Education Inga Gedžūne and Ginta Gedžūne, who are 3rd-year doctoral students of pedagogy, took part in the 4th international scientific conference “World Conference on Educational Sciences” in Barcelona, Spain. The conference aimed to bring together the educational scientists, administers, councillors, education experts, teachers, graduate students and civil society organization and representatives to share experience and expertise and discuss theoretical and practical knowledge and research results related to such topics as curriculum and instruction, teacher training, pre-school, primary school and secondary school education, vocational and higher education, environmental education, multicultural education, technology-based learning, etc. Inga Gedžūne and Ginta Gedžūne represented Daugavpils University and the Institute of Sustainable Education with a presentation “Making sense of inclusion and exclusion through educational action research for sustainability in teacher education”. Amongst conference participants was also another doctoral student of pedagogy from Daugavpils University – Liene Kvedere who gave a presentation “Mathematics self-concept of the 9th grade students in Latvia”. All doctoral students’ participation in this conference was supported by the ESF project “Support to Implementation of Doctoral Studies at Daugavpils University”, agreement No. 2009/0140/1DP/188.8.131.52.2/09/IPIA/VIAA/015.
