ISE representatives participate in an international conference on the issues of education for sustainable development, new technologies and critical pedagogy

On June 15-16, 2012 Ilga Salīte and Ginta Gedžūne represented the team of the Institute of Sustainable Education at the international conference "New Technologies, Education for Sustainable Development and Critical Pedagogy" which was held at the University of Crete in Rethymnon (Greece). The conference covered pedagogical, technological, instructional, as well as policy aspects of New Technologies and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) with particular interest in how New Technologies can be a support to ESD and how ESD can be a context to New Technologies in Education. Special emphasis was given to applied research relevant to real-life issues addressing social, economic, environmental and cultural dimensions of education for sustainability from a critical pedagogy perspective. During the conference, Ilga Salīte and Ginta Gedžūne presented their research papers and discussed the possibilities opened by ICT in implementation of teacher education to address sustainability to foster greater learner autonomy and exploration of a pedagogue's mission and responsibility in the age of new technologies.
